Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Meets with Ms. Dambisa Moyo, a Famous Writer
2010-12-30 00:47

On December 23, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming met with Ms. Dambisa Moyo, a famous writer and Director of Barclays Bank.

Ms. Moyo said that the recent development and progress in Africa is inseparable from China’s assistance, and that China, as a sincere and reliable friend of Africa, has given the Continent effective and practical help. She also briefed Ambassador Liu on her forthcoming book How the West Was Lost.

Ambassador Liu introduced China’s policy to Africa, saying that China will continue to work with African countries, on the basis of sincerity, friendship, equality, mutual benefit and common development, to constantly enrich and promote the strategic partnership between China and Africa and benefit both peoples. The Ambassador hoped Ms. Moyo will use her influence to give more people objective knowledge on the active role of China in the development of Africa.

The two sides also exchanged views on the world economy and other issues of common interest.

Born in Zambia, Dambisa Moyo has dual nationality of Zambia and UK. She has long been committed to the researches on East-West relations and development. Her work Dead Aid was named “best seller 2009” by the New York Times. In the same year she was elected one of the world’s 100 most influential people by the Time Magazine. In 2009, when attending the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Egypt, Premier Wen Jiabao cited the view in Ms. Moyo’s work at a press conference by saying: “I once read a book named Dead Aid. It was written by an African woman writer. She tells us in her book throught her personal experience that China’s assistance to Africa is sincere, credible, practical and efficient, and therefore is widely applauded among the African people.”
