Zhu noted in his speech that the year 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. In this year, China-UK “Golden Era” made continued progress. In particular, China-UK educational and talent exchange and cooperation harvested bountiful fruits. China and the UK made new breakthroughs on educational cooperation, established new platforms for talent exchange, and opened a new prospect in cultural and people-to-people exchange through educational cooperation. All the achievements are attributable to the strong support and hard efforts of people from British educational sector. In 2019, China will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic. He expressed the hope that, “China and the UK would stay open and inclusive, learn from each other and achieve our goals together. Hand in hand, we can contribute more to the China-UK ‘Golden Era’ and the development and prosperity of mankind!”

The Rt Hon. Baroness Amos CH PC, Director of SOAS, University of London, and Stephen Perry, Awardee of the China Reform and Friendship Medal and Chairman of the 48 Group Club, delivered speeches respectively. They talked about China’s remarkable achievements over the past 40 years since reform and opening up, and the fruitful results of China-UK educational cooperation. In the context of Brexit, people from all walks of life in Britain are willing to further deepen cooperation with China, and promote the in-depth development of China-UK “Golden Era”.
