President Xi Jinping Exchanges Letters with President Mauricio Macri of Argentina
2018/05/11

On May 11, 2018, President Xi Jinping exchanged letters with President Mauricio Macri of Argentina. Both sides exchanged views on China-Argentina relations, the G20 Summit, the current economic and financial situation in Argentina and other topics.

Xi Jinping expressed in the letter that President Mauricio Macri attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China and successfully paid a state visit to the country last year, during which the various consensus we had reached was actively implemented, and bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields were steadily advanced. Placing great emphasis on the development of China-Argentina relations, I am willing to work with you to continuously lead the development of bilateral relations, and steadily press ahead the major programs so as to push China-Argentina comprehensive strategic partnership to higher levels.

Xi Jinping noted that China firmly supports Argentina in hosting the G20 Summit this year, and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Argentina to well grasp the tone and direction of the Summit, adhere to multilateralism, strengthen global governance, and build an open world economy, so as to make the Summit a success.

Mauricio Macri noted in his letter that Argentina-China comprehensive strategic partnership is becoming increasingly closer and has achieved fruitful results. Argentina fully supports the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to strengthen all-round cooperation with China. During its presidency of the G20, Argentina will inherit and carry forward the consensus and achievements made in the G20 Hangzhou Summit.

Mauricio Macri briefed Xi Jinping on the current economic and financial situation in Argentina as well as its corresponding measures.

Xi Jinping pointed out that recently, influenced by external factors, the domestic economic environment of some emerging markets including Argentina has been confronted with new challenges. China firmly backs up Argentina’s efforts in realizing national stability and development, and is willing to provide assistance within China’s capacity to Argentina. It is believed that Argentina is capable of overcoming temporary difficulties and achieving long-term, stable, healthy and sustainable economic growth. China is fully confident in the development of Argentina as well as the future of China-Argentina relations.
