Wang Yi Meets with Newly-appointed BFA Chairman Ban Ki-moon
2018/05/14

On May 14, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with newly-appointed Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Ban Ki-moon.

Wang Yi congratulated Ban Ki-moon on his election as BFA Chairman, and expressed that the BFA, as the first non-governmental international organization located in China, has made considerable progress since its establishment 17 years ago. As China's development enters a new era, there should be a new atmosphere in the BFA's work. It is hoped that under the leadership of the new session of the Board of Directors, the BFA will develop from being based in Asia and facing the world to representing Asia and going towards the world, and make greater contributions to discussing and addressing the issues faced by Asia and the world. As the host country of the BFA, China will support its development as always.

Ban Ki-moon noted that he felt honored to be elected as BFA Chairman. In recent years, the international situation has undergone tremendous changes. Revolutionary progress has taken place in such fields as economy, science and technology. China’s influence has leaped to the forefront of the world. The BFA will focus on the above new situation, give full play to the platform role of the political, business and academic dialogue, and propose "Boao schemes" to promote the development of Asia and the world.
