Embassy Spokesperson on the UK Foreign Secretary's wrongful remarks related to China
2024-03-23 05:01

Question: According to media reports, during a visit to Australia, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron, in an interview with the media, described China's approach as an "epoch defining challenge", criticising China on issues related to Hong Kong and Xinjiang and claiming the UK will work with like-minded partners to stop China from unilaterally changing the situation in the Taiwan Strait. What is your comment?

Embassy Spokesperson: The UK fabricates facts, hypes up the so-called China threat, and makes irresponsible remarks on China's internal affairs. We firmly oppose this.

China is committed to an independent foreign policy of peace and follows the path of peaceful development. Facts have proven that China has always been a force for world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order. China has always been a staunch force for peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific.

In stark contrast, in following the footsteps of the US, the UK persistently sows discord and instigates trouble in the Asia-Pacific, which is the real source of challenges and disruptions to peace and stability in the region.

Issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang are China's internal affairs, which brook no external interference. No one should underestimate the firm determination, unwavering resolve, and strong capability of the Chinese people in safeguarding China's sovereignty, security, and development interests. Anyone attempting to use these issues to obstruct China’s reunification and stable development will fail.

We urge the UK side to stop inciting confrontation and rivalry, stop smearing China and interfering in China's internal affairs, and stop creating obstacles for the development of China-UK relations.
