Question: According to media reports, a “Labour Friends of Taiwan” delegation is on a visit to Taiwan. What is your comment? Embassy Spokesperson: In disregard of our firm opposition, some Labour Lords and MPs are visiting China’s Taiwan region. This is a blatant violation of the one-China principle and serious interference in China’s internal affairs. It sent out a wrong signal to the separatist forces for “Taiwan independence”. We express strong condemnation over the visit. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair. The one-China principle is a recognised basic norm of international relations and a universal consensus of the international community. It is also the important prerequisite and political foundation for the establishment and development of diplomatic relations between China and the UK. We urge relevant British politicians to stop violating the one-China principle and stop interfering in China's internal affairs. The relevant British politicians must know that any act that undermines China's interests will be met with forceful responses.
