Wang Yi Meets with Former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating
2024-03-21 12:48

On March 21, 2024 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating in Sydney.

Wang Yi appreciated Keating's long-term care and support for the development of China-Australia relations. Wang Yi said that China and Australia are both located in the Asia-Pacific region, and with complementary economies and converged interests, the two countries should understand and trust each other and seek win-win cooperation. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Australia, which is an important year for summarizing experiences and carrying forward past achievements. With the efforts of both sides, China-Australia relations are returning to the right track. Australia is an ally of the United States, a partner of China, and above all, a sovereign country. The Australian side is welcome to formulate policies independently based on its fundamental interests. China is ready to work with Australia to promote a more mature, stable and fruitful China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership to better benefit the two peoples and the entire region.

Wang Yi said that China's development has a strong internal logic and is in line with the general trend of historical development. Chinese modernization is a significant contribution to the progress of human civilization. China is willing to share development opportunities with all countries, including Australia.

Keating said that China's huge economic volume and vast space for development do not pose a threat to other countries and are conducive to regional peace and stability. China's development and revitalization are unstoppable. He expressed full confidence in the prospect of Australia-China relations.
