On March 21, 2024 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Premier of New South Wales of Australia Christopher John Minns in Sydney.

Wang Yi said, state-to-state relations ultimately boil down to people-to-people exchanges. The foundation of China-Australia relations lies in the people and has always enjoyed broad public support. New South Wales has always been at the forefront of China-Australia exchanges, serves as a forerunner, and plays an exemplary role in China-Australia cooperation. China is accelerating its modernization, which will bring new development opportunities to its neighbors, including Australia. The biggest takeaway from this visit to Australia is that whether it is the ruling party or the opposition, the business community or the strategic sector, officials or ordinary people, all support strengthening dialogue and cooperation between China and Australia in various fields, as well as improving and developing bilateral relations. While consolidating and expanding cooperation in traditional fields such as energy and mining, agricultural products, and dairy products, China is willing to work with Australia to explore new growth areas of cooperation such as technological innovation, climate response, and green transition, and strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges in areas like education and tourism. Wang Yi expressed the hope that New South Wales will continue to play a pioneering role in deepening China-Australia friendly cooperation.
