On November 1, Ambassador Liu attended the banquet jointly hosted by Mr. Chris Huhne, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Mr. Gregory Barker, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change and Lord Marland, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department of Energy and Climate Change. At the dinner, the two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on China-UK cooperation in the field of energy and climate change.

Secretary Huhne said that he looks forward to accompanying Prime Minister David Cameron on his visit to China and the China-UK Energy Working Group Meeting, and hoped that the in-depth cooperation between UK and China in the field of energy will become a highlight of the relations between the two countries and an important achievement of the Prime Minister's visit to China. Given the complementarity of the two countries on energy cooperation, the two sides should further identify future direction, guidelines and priority areas for new energy cooperation and encourage entrepreneurs, experts and officials of both countries to expand exchanges and carry out more substantive cooperation.

Ambassador Liu wished Mr. Huhne all the best on his visit to China accompanying Prime Minister Cameron and hoped that the visit will achieve positive results. Ambassador Liu pointed out that the two countries have great potential and broad prospects in cooperation in clean energy, renewable energy, etc., as UK has advanced technology and many success stories, while China has a vast market, huge demand and a wide range of areas for the application of the technologies. The two sides should actively encourage their new energy enterprises to strengthen cooperation and create for them a good cooperation platform and exchange mechanisms.

Huhne and others remarked that China has made significant efforts to respind to climate change and that the British side attaches importance to China-UK cooperation in climate change and is ready to strengthen coordination with China to ensure the success of the Cancun conference this year.

Ambassador Liu introduced China's position on climate change and specific initiatives for energy conservation and emission reduction and emphasized that the Cancun conference should build on the results of the Copenhagen conference, adhere to the principles of fairness and “common but differentiated responsibilities” and continue to promote the implementation of “Bali road map”. China is willing to work with UK to promote international climate change negotiations to achieve positive results.
