Explanation on Earthquake Donations

From 12 May when earthquakes hit Wenchuan in Sichuan Province to 12 pm on 11 June, the Chinese Embassy had received donations of 1,704,444.82 pounds from overseas Chinese, Chinese companies, Chinese students and friendly British people, all of which had been deposited into the accounts opened for earthquake donation with London branch of Bank of China.

Details of donations and expenditures:

On 3 June, 218,415.41 pounds had been defrayed for purchasing tents. The tents had reached disaster areas.

On 5 June, 691,367.31 pounds had been transferred.

On 12 June, 412,474.15 pounds had been transferred.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China will collect and transfer the donation to the Ministry of Civil Affairs for relief and reconstruction.
