At the invitation of the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, Zhou Yibo, a famous artist and Vice Chairman of the People’s Political Consultative Conference of Shaanxi Province, is holding an exhibition entitled “Midnight Ink Soul at the Dulwich Picture Gallery” in London from May 31 to June 6.
On the evening of May 31, Madam Hu Pinghua--wife of Chinese Ambassador in London; Simon Freakley--Chairman of the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London and over 100 guests attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition.
Mr. Zhou said at the Opening Ceremony that he is delighted to hold a painting and calligraphy exhibition in the UK on the eve of the London Olympic Games, and, through this exhibition, he wishes to express Chinese artists’ support for the Olympic Spirit. Today’s world is one of harmony, sharing and common progress. As a cultural envoy, he hopes to spread the Chinese culture to the world and promote the harmonious co-existence of Eastern and Western cultures.
Chairman Freakley said that he is very honoured to invite Mr. Zhou Yibo to hold the exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery. This exhibition of contemporary Chinese art will add new vitality to the Dulwich Picture Gallery and display the unique charm of Oriental art to the British audience.
Mr. Zhou Yibo also performed the traditional Chinese musical instruments of Xun, Bawu and Banhu. Showcasing the profound musical culture, his compelling performance aroused continued applause from the audience.
The exhibition displays 13 calligraphy works and 19 traditional Chinese paintings by Mr. Zhou Yibo. In the eyes of the audience, his calligraphy works are majestic and forceful, and the lifelike characters in his paintings not only arouse the audience’s resonance, but also leave an ample space for imagination.
With a history of over 200 years, the Dulwich Picture Gallery is the oldest public art gallery in the UK. Mr. Zhou Yibo is the first Chinese artist to hold an exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery.
