Professor Bai Chunli, President of Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited the UK from May 30 to June 4, 2012 at the invitation of the Royal Society. During his visit, Professor Bai met with Sir Paul Nurse, President of the Royal Society and dicscussed with him cooperation between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the British Royal Society. The two sides agreed to deepen the existing cooperation between the two institutions, particularly in the aspects of science and technology policy researches, research evaluation, seminars on cutting-edge scientific issues and exchanges and development of young scientists.

On June 1, Professor Bai and his delegation visited University College London (UCL) and attended the “China Research Day” series events at the University, including the forums in energy, life sciences and other fields and the visits to the University’s key laboratories. Professor Bai also received an honorary doctorate conferred by UCL and gave a wonderful academic lecture.

Professor Bai also attended the meeting of the Policy, Planning and Future Action Committee of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World and visited the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and other institutions.
