On July 26, the Chinese government representative, State Councilor Dai Bingguo visited members of the Chinese sports delegation to the 30th Summer Olympics in London Olympic Village at the instruction of General-Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao.
On behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, Mr. Dai extended warm greetings and good wishes to all the athletes, coaches and staff members of the Chinese delegation. He hoped that the delegation members would pursue the Olympic spirit “higher, swifter, stronger” and strive for success, live up to the expectations of the Chinese people and win glory for the motherland.
Dai Binggo said that the Olympic Games is the largest and most influential sporting event in the world Today. Four years ago the successful Beijing Olympics received strong support from the international community. The London Olympics is the first Olympic Games following the Beijing Olympics. As a member of the Olympic Family and the previous host country, China will actively take part in and full support the London Olympics. This year China has sent a delegation of 621 members. Its size and strength have impressed the world. He said that “You are both athletes and the friendship envoys on behalf of the Chinese people. I hope that you will not only win competitions but also demonstrate Chinese people’s good will, openness and confidence outside the competition venues. I also hope that you will work together to both make great achievements in sports and perform your role as envoys of friendship to celebrate the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.”
The representatives of the athletes and coaches thanked the support and encouragement of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. They said they would try every effort to succeed and live up to the expectations of the mother country and the people.
Dai Bingguo also visited the athletes’ dormitory and the main dining hall in the Olympic Village, and talked to the Chinese athletes.
Mr. Liu Peng, Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, accompanied Mr. Dai on the visit.
